Vintage knitwear, I love it!

I have always loved vintage knitwear, and in the past couple of years I have been fortunate enough to find somebody to make certain items to compliment the range of vintage winter clothing that I sell ....

A lovely lady makes the fingerless mittens.

Then I discovered a lady who makes vintage style scarves. She used to own a wool shop - so uses "old stock" to make these beauties for charity.

The berets are knitted by another lady who lives locally, she uses an old 40's pattern & makes a variety of styles. A percentage of the money for these goes to the British Red Cross.

All I need now is somebody to knit some jumpers, I have a huge stash of vintage patterns to work from.

Hi Lizzie, love the knits! I have been looking for ages for what I call an "Enid Blyton" fairisle v-necktank top for Michael, I think one would really suit him!

p.s. I hope the Dairy House is coming on?

Hi Lizzie,
The first photo caught my eye as it features in a book I have by Sarah Dallas called Vintage Knits, the amazon link is below.
Anyway, like you, I love vintage style knitwear and apart from this book I collect patterns from charity shops. I've made several things over the years! I've got some knitting planned from the Sarah Dallas book for the next few months - just need to find the right wool !
Hope you are well and enjoying yourself,
Happy Days,
Denise x

What a brilliant idea. I found some real vintage knitting at my PILs' this Christmas, but of course the moths had got to it (it was a pair of knitted toys, in fact). So to start afresh with the patterns is marvelous.

I have had another moment of hand-knitted envy today, as I was in the charity shop where one of the workers collects up all the wools that come in and makes squares blankets. I honestly could buy every one of them, but perhaps that would be greedy...

Good luck with finding someone to knit those jumpers for you.
I really like the picture you have in your header.
Best wishes,
Birdie

Hi Liz

I'm amazed you don't knit the jumpers in between all the Fairs, decorating, washing and sorting and pricing!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Liz,
A great post - I love the old knitting patterns from the 40's and 50's too and the designs are often so wearable today...just wish I could knit to a better degree...
(Although I am reminded of those knitted men's underpants and vest that Sue had a pattern for at the V&H - hysterical and not something I would wish to tackle!)

Keep warm! (in vintage woolies of course!)

Meant to say! Also loved the photo of your snowy barn...I think I have a photo of it somewhere when the wisteria was in full flower.

Thanks Niki, sitting here wrapped up in a vintage woollie that I bought from Angela (there's a lady who can knit!) Happy memories of the barn wrapped in Wisteria rather than snow! Lizzie x

Great patterns. I used to do a lot of knitting but haven't knitted anything for years. I regret giving away all my odd balls of wool now as they would be great for 2 ply berets, gloves etc.
