Dancing in the Street!

This was the scene in a tiny hamlet in rural France last weekend. A musical evening of a varied selection from traditional French music to Rhythm and Blues..............
There was a great community atmosphere, young and old took to the stage to perform. The "stage" was parked literally in the street, so that is where the dancing took place!

Much earlier that day we had travelled many miles to this beautiful location for yes, you have guessed it a Vide Grenier (Car Boot Sale) of course!
You can just see the field where it took place (below) behind the Château..................

We visited many "Vide's" over the weekend, and here are a few of our finds. Some are destined for The Dairy House, and others for the various fairs coming up in the next few weeks........

Regular trips to France are always a "lucky dip" as to what you find. This time I was lucky enough to find a mannequin (a first!)
Along with these kitchen posters..... shutters.. garden bench..... cuddly toy!

Ticking.... pretty plates.....
Glittering glassware included funky 50's tumblers, Deco Sundae dishes, and a 50's glass jug suitable for Pimms (with 10 matching glasses)
Vintage champagne buckets seemed to be on every stall, so I bought 6 in total!
...and of course the usual selection of kitchenware, enamel jugs, cake plates, toys, baskets, mirrors, pictures, vintage dresses and textiles!

Hope you all had a fab weekend too?

What wonderful finds, Lizzie. I've recently fallen in love with those old soft toys and I can't wait to see what dresses and textiles you may have found...

Ah, I have ONE of those blue rose plates, and another quite like it.. a set, though... sigh.

We were at a similar concert last night, and I'll post some photos tomorrow - you're right, the community atmosphere is wonderful.

But what you have, and I haven't, is the Vide Greniers! Something seems to be going wrong with my timing at the moment, because I haven't been to a VG in weeks. I'll have to try harder. Your photos are very, very inspirational! I'm glad you had such a good time.

I hope you don't mind me asking cos I've been trying to figure it out all afternoon, how do you put the "you might also like" tags at the end of your post?
(through gritted teeth) x

ps the last manni I brought back from France was as a foot passenger on the ferry (me, not her) and some funny looks I got too!

Hi Lizzie ~ great finds ~ I hope that they haven't all sold by the time I get to see some! The chateau looks like Chateau D'Oiron which we visited last year, but sadly no vide to rummage through!

I'm hoping to get to the V&H Textile fair, so will see you there...

Hi Ali. I will need to look at a map to get the name of the chateau.. it was about the 5th Vide we visited that day, so it was all beginning to be a bit of a blur.. we had driven miles!!!! Lizzie x

Hi Lizzie,
Wonderful finds...you obviously know where in France to shop...last year we went to several sales, but could hardly afford anything!

Had a lovely lady in my shop today who had picked up my postcard from you at Exeter - so thank you VERY much for that! x

Enjoy the sunshine,
Niki x
Good luck for the 3rd!

I am SO jealous of your visit to France and the VGs. We used to spend all our spring/summer weekends - and some winter ones - doing that. But it's become much more difficult in the last couple of years due to other calls on our time (and purse-strings). I just love how each small village or town becomes 'en fete' for the day. Actually our French ruin is full of previous years 'finds' that we can't bear to get rid of!
